Competition Rules

1. INTERNAL COMPETITIONS
The following competitions shall be held each year :-
1. Print Worker of the Year. 2. Projected Image Worker of the Year. 3. Print of the Year. 4. Projected Image of the Year. 5. Cosmic Camera. 6. Set Subject. 7. Panel of Prints.
The Print Worker of the Year and Projected Image Worker of the Year competitions shall be merit competitions held over four separate rounds in any one competition season.
The Cosmic Camera, Set Subject and Panel of Prints competitions shall be held at the Committee's discretion.

2. SECTIONS
The "Print Worker of the Year" and the "Print of the Year" competitions shall be divided into the following sections :-

| 1. Monochrome Prints | This section shall be open to both Advanced and Intermediate members and will be judged as one class.
|
| 2. Colour Prints (Advanced) | This section shall be open only to Advanced members. |
3. Colour Prints (Intermediate) | This section shall be open only to Intermediate members.
|
The "Projected Image Worker of the Year" and the "Projected Image of the Year" competitions shall be divided into the following sections :-

1. Slides
| This section shall be open to both Advanced and Intermediate members and will be judged as one class.
|
| 2. Digital Images (Advanced) | This section shall be open only to Advanced members. |
3. Digital Image (Intermediate) | This section shall be open only to Intermediate members.
|
The Competition Secretary shall keep a record of which members are "Advanced" and which members are "Intermediate" and such record shall be displayed on the Club's notice board prior to the start of each new competition season.

All new members of the Club shall, for competition purposes, be regarded as being Intermediate members unless otherwise agreed with the Competition Secretary prior to entering into any of the Club's competitions.

3. ELIGIBILITY
Only paid-up members of the Club will be eligible to enter any of the Club competitions.
|
4. TROPHIES
Trophies shall be awarded to the winner of each of the competitions. The winner of each trophy shall be entitled to retain and hold that trophy for the period following its presentation until the Club's first meeting in January of the following year at which time the trophy must be returned to the Club in readiness for its presentation to the new winner at the Club's Annual Dinner.

5. ENTRIES
|
1. Print Competitions
| Entries to all rounds of the Print Worker of the Year merit competitions and to the Print of the Year Competitions shall be limited to a maximum of two entries from any one member.

2. Projected Image (Digital Image and Slide) Competitions
| Entries to all rounds of the Projected Image Worker of the Year merit competitions and to the Projected Image of the Year competitions shall be limited to a maximum of three entries from any one member. All entries to these competitions must be numbered either 1, 2 or 3 in order of preference so that in the event that the total number of entries in any one competition is too large (in the opinion of the Competition Secretary) then the number 3 entry from each member will be dropped from the competition.

Any print, slide or digital image which has been entered into any section of the competitions held during a particular competition season cannot be entered as a different form in any of the other sections of the competitions in that same competition season. For example, if an image is entered as a colour print, then that image cannot also be entered as a monochrome print, or as a digital image or as a slide during that same competition season.
All entries to any of the competitions must originate from an image which must have been taken by a photographic process. Members must hold the copyright of all of the constituent parts of any image entered into any of the Club competitions.

6. SUBJECT
Unless otherwise stated the subject matter for all competitions shall be "open".

7. TITLE
Prints, slides and digital images entered into any of the competitions must show a title and also the member's name and/or membership number.

8. PRINTS
Prints submitted to any of the competitions must be mounted. There is no requirement as to the size of the print but the overall size of the mount must not exceed 20 x 16 inches.
Entries for any of the Club's print competitions must be handed in to the Competition Secretary at least one week prior to the date of the competition.

9. SLIDES
Slides must be spotted in the lower left hand corner of the slide mount as viewed from the hand.
Entries for any of the Club's slide competitions must be handed in to the Competition Secretary at least one week prior to the date of the competition

10. DIGITAL IMAGES
Digital images should be submitted in JPEG format the size of which should not exceed 1024 pixels in width and 768 pixels in height. (detailed instructions on how to resize digital images for entry into the digital image competitions can be found here).
Entries should be copied to a CD disc. Only one disc may be submitted by any one member for any one competition. The disc should contain not more than the stipulated number of images for the competition for which it is entered. The name of the member submitting the disc for entry in the competition should be clearly shown on the face of the disc.
Entries for any of the Club's digital image competitions must be handed in to the Competition Secretary at least one week prior to the date of the competition. The exception to this is the Cosmic Camera Competition entries for which must be handed in to the Competition Secretary at least two weeks prior to the date of the competition.

11. PRINT AND PROJECTED IMAGE WORKER OF THE YEAR COMPETITIONS
The Print Worker of the Year merit competitions and the Projected Image Worker of the Year merit competitions shall each be held over four separate rounds, the first two of which shall be held in the latter half of one season and the remaining two of which shall be held in the first half of the next season. Points will be awarded as follows :-

| Second Place | 4 points |
| Third Place | 3 Points |
| Highly Commended | 2 Points |
| Commended | 1 Point |
In addition all entrants will be awarded 1 point for each section of the competitions they have entered.
The same image cannot be entered into more than one section of the competitions.
Entries to any round of The Print and Projected Image Worker of the Year merit competitions that did not attain a first, second, or third place or commendation in that particular round may be entered into any one further round in the same competition in that particular competition season. This rule is included to encourage members to improve their entry taking into account a judges comments. Entries that did obtain a first, second or third place or a commendation may not be entered into any of the remaining rounds of that merit competition.
The winner of the Intermediate section of the Print Worker of the Year merit competitions and the winner of the Intermediate section of the Digital Image Worker of the Year merit competitions shall be entitled to be promoted to the Advanced section of the Print Worker of the Year merit competitions or to the Advanced section of the Digital Image Worker of the Year merit competitions (as the case may be) in the next and all future competition seasons. However promotion shall not be compulsory and any such winner may elect to remain as an Intermediate member if he or she shall wish to do so. |
12. PRINT AND PROJECTED IMAGE OF THE YEAR COMPETITIONS
The Print of the Year Competitions and the Projected Image of the Year Competitions shall be held in January of each year. The entries in all sections of these competitions can only be entered once and cannot be re-entered in the same competitions in subsequent years. Only prints, slides and digital images which have been entered into the four rounds of the Print and Projected Image Worker of the Year merit Competitions held prior to the Print and Projected Image of the Year Competitions shall be eligible to be entered in the Print and Projected Image of the Year Competitions. No new prints, slides or digital images will be accepted.
The rules relating to promotion from the Intermediate section to the Advanced section shall not apply to the Print and Projected Image of the Year competitions.

13. COSMIC COMPETITION
The competition shall be open to digital images only and shall be open to both Advanced and Intermediate members and shall be judged as one class. All digital images entered into this competition must be new work and must not have been entered into any previous competition held by the Club. The competition shall be a set subject competition, the subject for which will be chosen by the Committee and shown in the Club’s programme of events. The competition will be judged by the members present on the competition evening which will usually be the last meeting of the season. Each member will vote for a first, second and third choice from the entries submitted (excluding their own entry). The winner will be the entry with the most votes. The rules relating to promotion will not apply to this competition. Entries for this competition must be handed in to the Competition Secretary at least two weeks prior to the date of the competition.

14. SET SUBJECT
This competition shall be divided into Print and Projected Image sections and shall be open to both Advanced and Intermediate members and will be judged as one class. The rules relating to promotion shall not apply to this competition.

15. PANEL OF PRINTS
This competition shall be open to both Advanced and Intermediate members and shall also be open to both monochrome and colour prints and will be judged as one class. The rules relating to promotion shall not apply to this competition.
